At present we hatch as many of our own chicks and ducklings as we can. We raise Muscovy ducks for meat and eggs.
For laying hens we bred Buff Orpingtons and Black Australorps as well as crosses between the two. They are also for meat (roosters) and eggs (hens) as well as unsexed chicks.
We also grow the Cornish Giants X meat birds. And giants they are. Our favorite comment so far was written on a memo line of a cheque "Giant mythical birds". In 10 weeks the Cornish Giants grow to between 7 - 11 lbs and can usually feed a family of 4 for three meals. They are available: whole, halved or in pieces three times per year. Although there are usually a few in the freezer available throughout the year.
