We are two weeks before crazy begins. This year is promising to be extra busy from the looks of it. For February we are looking for the start of the bottle lambs and the arrival of 4 Berkshire X Duroc piglets.
March is the first batch of meat birds and the incubator hatching the first batch of replacement laying hens. Mid month is the start of our lambing and Thelma is due March 13th. Plus starting all the plants for the garden
April's experiment is Pekin Ducks. May our Louise is due and the first batch of meat birds will be processed at the new local abbatoir on Saltspring island. June this year is the second batch of meat birds and the first batch of Turkeys for Thanksgiving and the start of the Tuesday market.
August is the third and last batch of meat birds for the year and the second batch of Turkeys for Christmas.
Somewhere in there is hay season and rebuilding our new farm truck. We "inherited" my great grandfathers 1951 Chev pickup this year and we are hoping to have time to rebuild it. The backyard has been dug up and completely rearranged with all the raised beds removed and relocated to a 5' perimeter of the yard and fruit trees replanted in the center. Now we just have to fence it off from the chickens when they are free ranging and install irrigation. All the tulips and daffodils have poked up through the dirt and are ready to flower. Spring is just around the corner. All the best the Windsor zoo.
